You have 7 senses

Yes, you read that correctly. We don't just have the 5 most well-known senses: touch, smell, taste, hearing, and sight. No, you actually have 2 extra. Get to know them here.

The body

The body has a sensory system comprising 7 senses: touch, proprioception, balance, sight, hearing, taste, and smell.

The body's close senses are the first 3 mentioned senses. It is from these senses that we experience our own body in relation to our surroundings. The other senses tell us something about our surroundings.

When we at ZiboCare work with products and aids in the sensory area, we primarily focus on the sense of touch and proprioception.

Sense of touch

The sense of touch is our most important sense. It is located in the skin and registers touch. The sense of touch is also called the tactile sense.

When the skin is touched, stimuli are sent to the brain, where an image of our body and its boundaries is formed, allowing us to distinguish between body and surroundings. The sense of touch helps create our body awareness and assists the brain in keeping us updated on our body.

In our weighted products, we have stimuli that affect the sense of touch. This influence is important for continuously receiving new stimuli to the brain and experiencing a sense of "gatheredness" in the body.

If it were solely about weight, the effect of the weight would not stimulate in the same way, and the body would adapt to the feeling without experiencing varying stimuli. The movement in the chains during use sends new impulses to the brain, thereby creating a better body image and sense of self.

Muscle-joint sense

This sense is also called the position sense, movement sense, or proprioceptive sense. It resides in muscles and joints and registers our own body's movements. Stimulation of the muscle-joint sense calms the nervous system. For example, physical activity can help create calmness.

Everyone knows the feeling of impatience, restlessness, or frustration, where the behaviour can easily become, for example, moving restlessly in a chair, tapping a foot, or clicking a pen…

Completely unconsciously, we intuitively use the muscle-joint sense to soothe and calm the body and mind.

Our weighted products combine tactile and weight stimuli to influence the senses as optimally as possible, fostering a better sense of self in relation to the surroundings.

“Completely unconsciously, we intuitively use the muscle-joint sense to soothe and calm the body and mind.”
